Paint to Learn. Jean Baptiste Camille Corot

20 cm x 13 cm acrylic on paper.

I’ve been doing a few paintings of green over the weekend; it must be all that nice weather giving us different tones to contend with. Sticking with that theme I was painting to learn in the style of Corot, albeit with acrylics instead of his oils.

Painting to learn, or in the style of others is not an exercise in copying an exact replica (I think that’s called forgery), but an attempt to interpret the essence and learn from that.

I love this simple little study, it has the economic brushwork and a rendering of light I want to aim for in my own plein air work.

See the real McCoy on
