Booty and the Beach

 Carbon pencil and a watercolour

Carbon rubbings of the bottles.

A cloud of Turnstone feeding on the shore

I spent the day walking from Formby to Hightown yesterday along the beach and came home with some booty. I'll use the bottles in some of my future still life paintings.

Back to Basics, Four Drawings

I've been adding to my sketchbooks with some drawings and all but the dog were done from life; he wouldn't sit still long enough for an extended study. The top two were using charcoal, a medium I should get more practice with. The bottom two were done with 01 and 03 ink pens. All drawn in a 14 cm x 14 cm sketchbook.

I've tried several times with this painting but the site just keeps making it look lighter. For a more representational look of the original check out the link below to see this and other artwork.

Turner at the Lady Lever gallery

detail of an Alfred Munnings painting, 'The Fresian Bull'

You can see the original at the link above although the original is not as photographic looking in the flesh. There is very little detail, just amazing painterly abstract brush marks.

Leisure Painter Magazine Article

I have an article in the May edition of Leisure Painter magazine out now. I road tested Great A's Manet brushes which have since become a welcome addition to my collection, especially the watercolour mop's, they're really good at holding lots of paint.
