Talking Heads, Still life painting

21cm x 14cm acrylic on canvas

In Mousehole that morning the village opened its eyes to warm sunshine and chimney smoke before gently easing about its business. Heavy birds sat on sagging clothesline roofs. Old men in bright yellow waders were talking on the harbour sand, fish heads at their feet, wide eyes and silent silver mouths.

One week in Cornwall.

We spent the morning in Falmouth where I came across a portrait by one of my favourite painters, John Singer Sargent, and then moved on to paint at Gunwalloe in the afternoon. Oil on canvas 25cm x 18cm.

One week in Cornwall.

A walk along the mining coast from Pendeen to Cape Cornwall where I took time out to do a painting of the last leg with the Cape in the distance and the Brisons out at sea. It was grey and blowing a gale but what a day, shame I cant paint the wind. The small pochade box I use really comes into its own on days like this, with the canvas set into the box lid my painting station doesn't turn into a kite like work on an easil might.

Steve Strode at Editions Contemporary Art.
14th October-29th October

There are three strands to work at Editions which will be on show, the Liverpool paintings, the landscapes and still life.
May 2010 saw the beginning of a yearlong project painting the city of Liverpool which culminated in 125 pieces of work. In the coming months the paintings will be featured in consecutive issues of Leisure Painter magazine.
Then landscapes are the result of frequent visits to the West Penwith coast in Cornwall.
The still life paintings are part of a series which includes the addition of text for still life with a twist.
