Still Life Then And Now.

The benefits of dating your work to assess your progress really hit home today. Clearing out some old stuff in storage I came across what was probably my first still life back in 1983. This was done using chalk pastels and precedes any work I later did with paints.  I can compare it to the effort I have on exhibition with The Artist and Leisure Painter 2013 Open Art Competition.

Using Acrylic Like Watercolour

I've been playing with the acrylics and using them like watercolour to get into the swing of things for an upcoming article for the Leisure Painter. I did a copy of a recent still life in oils I did, ‘Pomegranate and Grapes’, and brightened up the backdrop.

Finally got the computer change over complete; not without a problem or two, hence the disappearance for a while. Sticking with the still life at the moment, it's warmer in the kitchen

The Artist and Illustrators, Artist of the Year 2012.

September is proving to be a good month for my paintings. I'm off to the opening of  'Mersey-wide' tonight where I  had a piece selected for a show containing 60 works from the best opens in the Merseyside area.

I used the natural light on the windowsill as it forces me to paint a little quicker than normal with a light set up, not a bad thing as it stops me fiddling with detail before the light changes. Daffodils from the garden are fast shrivelling in the sun.

The Great Escape

Finally got around to painting another ‘still life with a twist’ that’s been on my list for a while now. One of my favourite films when I was kid that always seemed to be the standard Christmas helping. I must admit I think I was whistling the tune from the film all the time I was painting.
