Last chance to see some of the Liverpool paintings at Editions Gallery on Cook Street in Liverpool, Saturday is the last day of the exhibition. The project is also in the November issue of 'Leisure painter' magazine availble in the shops now. The magazine is also featuring a step by step demo of a Liverpool painting in next months issue
We spent the morning in Falmouth where I came across a portrait by one of my favourite painters, John Singer Sargent, and then moved on to paint at Gunwalloe in the afternoon. Oil on canvas 25cm x 18cm.
A walk along the mining coast from Pendeen to Cape Cornwall where I took time out to do a painting of the last leg with the Cape in the distance and the Brisons out at sea. It was grey and blowing a gale but what a day, shame I cant paint the wind. The small pochade box I use really comes into its own on days like this, with the canvas set into the box lid my painting station doesn't turn into a kite like work on an easil might.
There’s a four page spread all about the Liverpool paintings in the November issue of Leisure Painter magazine which is in the shops now. The magazine uses 7 images from the collection of over 130 and in next month’s issue there is a step by step article on creating one of the pieces. A couple of the works went for sale last night along with some still life paintings at the exhibition at Editions on Cook Street which runs for a couple of weeks selling originals and prints
All the Liverpool paintings are 21cm x 14cm and are also available as prints
61cm x 61cm mixed media
21cm x 14cm originals and prints
Steve Strode at Editions Contemporary Art. 14th October-29th October
There are three strands to work at Editions which will be on show, the Liverpool paintings, the landscapes and still life. May 2010 saw the beginning of a yearlong project painting the city of Liverpool which culminated in 125 pieces of work. In the coming months the paintings will be featured in consecutive issues of Leisure Painter magazine. Then landscapes are the result of frequent visits to the West Penwith coast in Cornwall. The still life paintings are part of a series which includes the addition of text for still life with a twist.
Just back from a week painting, drawing and walking along the West Penwith coast of Cornwall. The first stop was St. Ives where we could have just walked into summer it was so hot. I managed to get some sketches done on the beach.
